Tips for creating masculine cards...

A new feature the Dudettes have decided to start is a tips post.  Along with the challenge post, we'll be including a post a day or two after the challenge with tips on how to conquer the masculine card. 

Here are some general tips on creating masculine cards:

Anne suggests using different dies and embossing folders.  Jute or rope instead of ribbon. 

Lynn picks a masculine paper after she decides which image to use.  The embellishments she choses are normally brads, twine, or buttons.  Paper piecing is also good on masculine cards.

NanaConnie uses a lot of layers on her masculine cards.  She feels the layering makes the card feel more "embellished" even though it's still clean.

Dawn doesn't shy away from ribbon on masculine cards, but instead of bows, she'll tie knots.  She will also add a flower, but will grunge it down a bit with distress inks. 

Now for some tips especially for the HEROS challenge:

I thought of twine for embellishment, but using only one strand seemed skimpy so I pulled four strands, trying to match up with the various colors in the card. Four strands of twine gave enough to have a nice bow size and so I left well enough alone and didn't do any additional embellishments.
